SIMANU- A local Hebrew calendar

final project at bezalel academy of art & design, 2016

SIMANU is a Hebrew calendar designed to reflect the natural rhythms of the world—weather, seasons, agricultural cycles—interwoven with human historical and ritual narratives.

The calendar takes the form of a wall-mounted hardware piece, creating a living presence in the space. It invites users to stay attuned to the passage of time in a tangible, visually engaging way.
Each month is represented by a unique icon. The annual view displays all icons together, forming a cohesive visual story, while the daily view highlights a specific element from the month’s icon alongside dynamic visuals of the lunar phases.

This project explores the relationship between local and universal time, encouraging a deeper awareness of the natural cycles that shape our lives. SIMANU serves as a reminder of one enduring truth: time is something we cannot conquer.
